Shanghai Ketchup

Hoisin sauce is generally too thick to be readily used as a condiment. This recipe allows you to enjoy the flavor of hoisin blended with a lovely complementary accompaniment, oranges! This ketchup can be used as a flavoring for many asian dishes or vegetable and noodle stir-frys.

2/3 cup hoisin sauce
1/4 cup orange juice
1/2 tsp garlic chili paste


To make Shanghai Ketchup, combine the hoisin sauce, orange juice and chili paste in a bowl. Stir to blend. The hoisin sauce will likely blend easier at room temperature. If this is too thick, you can alsways use the blender as well to encourage uniformity.

Chill until ready to serve. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 months.
